I don’t know about you, but fall is my favorite time of year because of all of the fun festivities it brings! I love crafting and decorating for fall, so If you love crafting too, this is the perfect fall craft to do. Not only is it so quick and easy, it makes the cutest pumpkins that can perfectly match your home style!
Let’s get started!
Materials needed:
-Sweater sleeves
-Scissors
-Twine, yarn, or thick string
-Plastic Yarn Needle
-Beans for the filling
-Stuffing
Step 1: Find Some Sweaters!
Take a look inside your closet and/or local thrift shop for sweaters that specifically have nice looking sleeves that also match the color scheme and vibe you are going for. An important tip is to make sure that the knit fabric doesn’t have too big of holes so that the beans don’t slip through the fabric.
Step 2: Cut
Cut the sleeve off directly across the armpit. You can also cut it shorter depending on the height of the pumpkin you want. There usually is enough material to make a couple pumpkins per sleeve. Once you cut the sleeve, turn it inside-out.
Step 3: Tie
Once you flip the sleeve inside-out, use any twine, yarn, or string that is fairly thick, to securely tie above the end of the sleeve (I chose to make a little pumpkin, so I tied more in the middle and ended up cutting off the rest of the sleeve about an Ince above the string.). Flip it right-side-out again.
It should look something like this:
Step 4: Fill
The purpose of the beans is to weight the bottom of the pumpkin down so that it will sit upright. I added about between a 1/4 to 1/2 a cup per pumpkin. Next, stuff the pumpkin until it feels like it’s at max capacity but still enough room at the top to grab the top of it to make a stem.
Step 5: Wind up that stem!
Tie off the top and carefully but firmly wind the string around the fabric and wind it until you are happy with the length of the stem.
Once I was done I used a yarn needle and fed the string from the top, to the bottom and pulled it snug before snipping off the end of the string.
Step 6: Shape into a pumpkin
Take about 3.5-4 ft of string and using the yarn needle, feed it from the bottom-center of the pumpkin to the top, and then keep feeding the string from the bottom to the top over and over until you are happy with the look of the the shape of the pumpkin. It will look loose at first but the trick to creating that perfect pumpkin shape is to pull the strings as tight as possible before tying it off at the bottom of the pumpkin.
Viola! A cute little pumpkin!
Happy fall crafting! I hope this tutorial was easy enough to follow along!
