Being someone with really thick long hair, I actually don’t do too much with it style-wise. I barely ever put it up in a ponytail, sometimes wear it in a braid (when I’m having a bad hair day), but almost always wear it down. Since I wear it down so often, I usually have three looks- wildly natural, straight, or curly waves. My obvious favorite way to wear my hair is curly because its actually the easiest way I do my hair! So today I wanted to share with you guys exactly how I achieve those long glossy, waves that can last for days!
First, Protect Your Hair From Heat Damage
I can’t stress this enough when it comes to using heat products: ALWAYS use some kind of heat protection before applying heat to your hair! My current favorite hair protector is the Orlando Pita Complete 12 Hair Therapy Treatment which protects hair from heat, mends split ends, and adds a beautiful, glossy shine!
The tool that I’m using is the José Eber 1″ Wand which is super inexpensive and works absolutely amazing!
Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
First, I put the top layer of my hair up so I can start curling the bottom layers.
I then simply divide my hair into two sections. Now we’re ready to curl!
Step 2
Taking my 1″ curling wand, I start on one side beginning with the hair closest to the base of my neck and curl each section away from my face. I then take random pieces and work my way towards my face.
Tip: You can alternate which way you curl each piece of hair, but I like to curl my hair away from my face because it creates the prettiest waves!
Now curl the other side and make sure to curl your hair away from your face!
Bottom layer is done!
Step 3
After curling the bottom layers, I take down the hair that I put up in the beginning, section it in half (usually your natural hair line is a good dividing point) and put one of the sections back up. Sectioning off your hair makes curling it so much easier!
Starting towards the back of my head, I again start curling each section away from my face and work my way towards the front. Repeat on the other side!
Step 4
Once your hair is all curled, it will look sort of like tightly-curled, unnatural curls at first, but don’t worry! I like to put my fingers through my hair starting from my scalp and gently run them through my hair to break up some of the curls. You can also run a wide tooth comb through your hair or even flip it upside down to break up the curls even more!
I personally don’t use any hair spray because my hair can hold curls for days without any extra product in it! If you have finer hair that doesn’t hold curl very well, I would suggest spraying your favorite super-hold hair spray to lock in those wavy curls!
And You’re Done!
It usually only takes me only 10-15 minutes to do these wavy curls, that’s why I always love to style my hair this way! I hope this little tutorial helped you out!!
