Hey guys! With the weather looking a little prettier here in Oregon, I was inspired to share a few of my favorite iPhone photography tips that are definitely a game changer when it comes to taking photos on your phone! Here are some of my favorite tips and tricks to upping my photography game from my phone!
Get to Know The Shooting Modes on Your iPhone’s Camera
Apple has all kinds of modes like Portrait, Panorama, and Square. It pretty much may be common sense, but when I’m planning on taking a photo for my Instagram, I like to shoot in the Square format because it makes it so much easier and cuts out the part where you have to crop the image. I also like shooting in Portrait mode as well for things like outfit photos of me because it seriously makes it look like you’re using a fancy, high quality camera with the blurred background.
Snap Photos with the Volume Button
This is a super short and sweet tip, but if you take photos by simply holding the volume button down, it greatly increases the quality of the photo your taking. Sometimes tapping the screen when taking a photo can cause camera shake which will make your photos a little blurry.
Turn Off The Flash
I find that with all photography, natural light is the best lighting to shoot in. It makes things look a lot more crisp, airy, and usually doesn’t look grainy like photos tend to be in lower lit settings. If you do have to shoot in dimmer lighting, I recommend using the camera’s exposure slider by just tapping on the object in the photo and sliding up to adjust the lighting before taking the photo. A little boost of light does wonders for making the photo look a little better!
Burst Mode Is Your Best Friend
Whether you’re trying to capture an action shot or wanting a friend to take the perfect photo of you, burst mode definitely comes in handy for capturing that perfect angle or shot. I personally like to ask my husband or friend to use burst mode when taking an outfit photo because it’s easier for them to just hold their finger down while you twirl or pose and hopefully get the shot you envisioned. All you have to do is go through all of the hundreds of photos they took in Burst Mode to find that one “Insta-worthy” photo you like (which makes it totally worth it!).
Find a Super Quick Photo Editing App
One of my absolute favorite apps to use for iPhone photography is the VSCO App (not sponsored) which adds the perfect, subtle filter to my photos. And if you’re a serious Instagrammer, there’s also a tool on there that helps you plan out your content and see how the photos look next to each other before posting! I love all of the tools on there and how the filters are very subtle, yet leave your iPhone photos looking like a professional pictures!
I hope you found these tips useful! Again, some of these tips may seem like total common sense, but practicing these tips will totally help with improving your iPhone photos! I just thought I would share with you guys these tips because as the weather is getting prettier and prettier, it will be more tempting to take the perfect photos wherever you go this spring and summer! Speaking of traveling around taking beautiful photos this spring and summer, Chase Rubin, a traveling photographer shares his personal insight and tips on how to enjoy being a travel photographer.
