There’s something so satisfying with creating something from scratch into a work of art! Today I wanted to share with you a simple project that is easy for even the newest DIY-ers! This is a beautiful gold accent jar that adds style to any home. The wonderful thing about it is that the finished look makes the vase look like it came straight from a high-end, spendy boutique- when in reality it takes under $10 to make! Enjoy!
Step 1:
Cut open a paper bag so that it lays flat. I went with a paper bag because it leaves a rigid texture when it is ripped making an interesting design. Newspaper or thick card stock will also achieve a similar look when ripped, so fin whatever kind of paper you desire!
Measure the perimeter of the vase, then measure out the length onto the paper. I added an extra half-inch so that when I wrap it around the vase, the paper can overlap. Cut the paper to the proper length.
Rip the edge of the paper to create a rigid, raw look. If the finished ripped edge doesn’t look how you wanted it to, simply rip another strip off to start again! Just make sure that the paper is long enough to fully cover the top of the vase so that no paint gets on the top portion of it.
Securely wrap the paper around the vase and tape it in place. Tip: When wrapping the paper around the vase, either use double-sided tape or fold the tape in half and stick it between the glass and the paper so that it doesn’t slip down. Make sure the paper is secure. Now all that’s left is to paint it any desired color. I chose gold because it looks gold dipped and the raw edges give it a modern look.
And Voila! A modern gold accent vase to store flowers, makeup brushes & more in!
