Love and Care for the Skin You’re In!
Clear and healthy skin is something that all of us want, right? Unfortunately not all of us can achieve it. Some people have hereditary acne, hormonal acne, or just simply do not know how to properly take care of their skin. It goes to show that no one is perfect- and that’s perfectly okay! Clear faced or not, there are so many things in daily life that can trigger a small impurity or massive breakout.
Today I wanted to share with you a few simple things I live by that I’ve found to help keep my skin healthy and blemish free. Whether you already have clear skin or not, these tips are perfect to make a habit of and live by.
1. Wash Hands Before Touching or Washing your Face
Not to make anyone feel like a dirty human being, but let’s be real, who knows what kind of bacteria is lurking on our hands before we touch our face! It is so easy to pick up all kinds of bacteria wherever we go so it is very important to stop and wash our hands before we touch or wash our face. Any dirt or bacteria that gets on the face can easily cause a breakout. And if any bacteria gets into the eyes, nose or mouth it can cause all kinds of sickness and infections.
2. Exfoliate at Least Twice a Week
Gently exfoliating at least twice a week can really do wonders for the skin. Exfoliating can smooth away dry, dull skin leaving the face more bright, soft, and glowing. To exfoliate my face, I use an oil-free face wash and gentle face pad to lightly scrub my skin in circular motions. I always make sure not to scrub for too long or hard because that can cause skin damage and irritation. So by exfoliating and keeping the skin free from build up and dry skin, it really helps the skin to stay clear, soft, and healthy looking.
3. ALWAYS Wear Sunscreen
Exposure to the sun can make the skin look leathery, cause wrinkles, and even cancer over time. That’s why it’s so important to use at least some SPF on your skin and face every day, even if its cloudy outside. Even if some people who have sensitive skin or are allergic to certain sunscreens, there are organic, gentle face and body sunscreens out there, trust me- I wrote about of of my favorite gentle face sunscreen here. If having a little SPF on your skin helps with sun damage and wrinkles, then I don’t know why anybody wouldn’t wear it!
4. Clean Makeup Brushes
Over time, makeup brushes and sponges gather bacteria that can cause some serious breakouts. It’s not necessary to clean them every time they are used, but it’s important to clean the makeup brushes every two weeks or so to get rid of bacteria that can do some harm to the face like cause breakouts and infections. To clean my brushes, I simply take a small bowl and fill it with a little water, olive oil, and dish soap, swirl around the brushes in the mixture, rinse and then lay out my brushes to dry. I find that that mixture cleans and sanitizes all of my brushes effortlessly. Plus cleaning your makeup brushes also helps get rid of product buildup so your brushes work so much better!
5. Wash Makeup off Before Bed
One of the biggest mistakes you can make for your skin is leaving makeup on over night. It can cause all kinds of problems and damage over time. If I don’t wash my face before I go to sleep I can guarantee that I will have some sort of blemish on my face. Washing makeup off before bed is one of the best things you can do for your skin because it naturally needs to rejuvenate over night and a thick layer of makeup makes it harder for you skin to breathe and renew. Sleeping in makeup can also dry clog pores, dry skin, and can get into your eye and cause serious damage like cornea abrasions and infections- no thanks!
I hope this post has been useful for you! Regardless of skin type, I think everyone should show their skin a little bit more love by following these extremely simple ways to help the skin look more healthy and clear. Your skin will surely thank you, I promise!
